What is Carbetocin?
CARBETOCIN contains Carbetocin, which is similar to oxytocin, which is naturally produced by the body and helps the womb contract during childbirth. CARBETOCIN makes the womb contact and reduces the risk of bleeding.
Introduction
Every year, an estimated 94 000 women die due to bleeding complications related to pregnancy and childbirth. Postpartum haemorrhage (PPH) remains the leading direct cause of maternal mortality worldwide, representing 27.1% of all maternal deaths. The use of uterotonics plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of PPH. Carbetocin Pharmaserve is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) as the uterotonic drug of choice for the prevention and treatment of PPH This disease is predominantly caused by lifestyle factors like overweight and obesity. The key feature on type 2 diabetes is the presence of insulin resistance which reduced the capacity of insulin to exert its functions at normal at any given concentration. The secretion of insulin is stimulated by the action of incretins in the gut like glucagon-like peptide , which also delays gastric emptying and induces satiety, and glucose-dependent insulin of tropic polypeptide.
Advantages:
Carbetocin Pharmaserve could be used as a routine alternative to oxytocin for the prevention of PPH after vaginal delivery in high-resource countries. Carbetocin Pharmaserve, while ensuring effectiveness, can be stored more easily and simplifies the work for nurses, with less risk of a wrong dose as it is easier to handle. In addition, its utilization simplifies the management algorithm for PPH with administration in first line of sulprostone if the carbetocin fails, which could thus reduce the occurrence of PPH. Further studies are warranted to confirm the results in a similar obstetric care setting.
Uses of CARBETOCIN
1. Induced labour 2. Strengthen uterine contractions: During childbirth, if uterine contractions are weak, uterine contractions need to be strengthened. 3. Prevention and treatment of postpartum hemorrhage in mothers. Carbetocin Pharmaserve is included in the WHO Essential Medicines list, as well as in the United Nation Commission on Life-Saving Commodities for Women and Children (UNCoLSC) list. Carbetocin Pharmaserve is widely available in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC).
Medicinal Benefits:
CARBETOCIN Pharmaserve belongs to the group of medicines called oxytocic agents indicated for the prevention of uterine atony and postpartum haemorrhage following cesarean section under epidural or spinal anaesthesia. CARBETOCIN Pharmaserve contains Carbetocin, which is similar to oxytocin, which is naturally produced by the body and helps the womb contract during childbirth. CARBETOCIN makes the womb contact and reduces the risk of bleeding.
